Social networking is ubiquitous on the internet.
Like the web-mail, social networking has become a must for many internet users, but that does not mean it is a profitable business. |
The providers offer their consumers a free webmail which keeps the users engaged with their brands and websites, but just like the social network websites, these will never make oodles of money.
However these websites have an enormous utility, they enable the connections between people and friends to interact through internet.
The problem is that these social network are often closed, many users create several accounts where they must invite the same friends for each service separately.
The industry is working on opening these services, by creating a single sign-on system that users can use across many sites or by enableing users to share informations with their friends through their e-mail account and hiding the same informations for other contacts.
